Girlfriend by surrender…

Man, I was talking to a friend today about her relationship. In general, it’s fun to talk with her about her specific situation because of the cultural differences between her and her man. Her man, foreign born, is very modern and has lived in the US for about 5 years. But he has been conditioned by his culture so every now and then, thoughts from his upbringing transform into clinginess and overanalyzes. She, on the other hand, has grown up in the United States and is incredibly modern with modern values. He wanted a commitment and she wanted to date. (She can be a dude sometimes…it’s great because I can relate to that).

They had a fight over the weekend because one of their friends referred to him as her boyfriend, but then quickly muffled and said friend…ugh…boyfriend…well, friend. This pissed him off, so they got into a fight.

The result? My friend decided to be his girlfriend to avoid the crap.

She surrendered!!!!

Now if they get married (sorry girl, but have to go there) and their kids eventually ask how they got together, I foresee another fight. Because the story won't be a romantic tale how they kissed in the rain and they just ‘knew’ that they didn't want to be with anyone else….no not at all.

Because she will way… ‘Well, I surrendered.’
