Tribute to bosses

I have been very lucky in my career to have the best bosses ever. Each one has been smart, compassionate, and well, funny. Of course I’m not mentioning your names, but here are my fondest memories of the past and present…

Boss #1:
The one who gave the ambitious intern a chance. He ran through the halls trying to figure who did the European report, only to find it was the 21 year old college student with no European experience. Wondering why my real boss didn’t care, this new one took me under his wing. I went with him to three different companies. He was/is my liberal big brother/dad. My real dad wants me to get married; my liberal one wants me to get my MBA. Fondest moment: when his wife had a baby, he called me to tell me that “I had a little sister.”

Boss #2:
Two birds with one stone, the first woman and Vice President that I reported to. She convinced me, somehow, to move to Wisconsin for this crazy global Web job. That in itself is a testament to her ability to be convincing; the one who taught me, indirectly, that 'opportunity' really means 'fix our mess.' She is also one of the most brilliant people that I know. And, a true friend. She hated being introduced as my boss. Fondest moment: too many to choose from, but the best, was when she set me up with someone that worked for her little sister. I still think that they were both devising a plan to make us stay in Wisconsin. Nice try ladies!

Boss #3 (my current boss):
Now it must be surprising that I’m already writing about my current boss. It’s been all of 5 months that I’ve been working for him. The great thing about this guy is that he uses words like ‘skuttlebutt’ and really thinks I’m incredibly smart and cool. Boy do I have him fooled! No, but seriously now. He has this incredible ability to deliver negative messages without anyone thinking he’s an a$$hole. Don’t know how he does it. In fact, I think people like him more after he’s done it. Fondest moment: When I verbally accepted my job offer, he told me that “I made his day.”

Were you drinking when you wrote this? Kidding! You realize that with this kind of boss experience, you have now been groomed to be the best boss/friend/daughter/sister possible!
